Description

HydroTops Bioponic Hydro Grow for Hard Water is a premium organic-based hydroponic vegetative nutrient formulated for use with hard tap water that we have been supplying to UK growers since 2017. HydroTops’ bioponic approach combines the precision and reliability of mineral hydroponics with the biological richness of organic cultivation — delivering a root zone environment that supports beneficial microbial life while providing complete, plant-available mineral nutrition. The Hard Water formulation is specifically calibrated to account for the elevated calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate content of hard UK tap water, preventing the nutrient imbalances that occur when standard hydroponic nutrients are used in hard water areas.

The Bioponic Difference in Hard Water Growing

Standard mineral hydroponic nutrients are formulated around a fixed calcium and magnesium ratio that assumes a particular source water profile. In hard water regions — where tap water EC from dissolved minerals is already 0.4–0.8 mS/cm — using a standard nutrient designed for soft water adds excessive calcium and magnesium on top of the already substantial background load, unbalancing the cation ratios and potentially inducing competition-based deficiencies of potassium and trace elements. Application and EC Management in Hard Water

Test your tap water EC before mixing — subtract the background reading from your target reservoir EC to determine the additional nutrient input required. Begin at 2–3 ml per litre for young plants, increasing to 4–6 ml per litre for established vegetative growth. Target total reservoir EC of 1.2–1.8 mS/cm, pH 5.8–6.2.
