The Neutral Reference Point for pH Meter Calibration

This stability is what makes certified buffer solutions reliable calibration references — unlike attempting to calibrate against tap water or other liquids of approximately known pH.

Frequency and Storage

Calibrate your pH meter at the start of every growing cycle, after electrode storage and reactivation, and whenever readings seem inconsistent with your observed plant response. Use a small clean container for calibration rather than dipping the electrode directly into the buffer bottle — this prevents the contamination that degrades buffer solution quality over time. Store in a cool, dark location and check the expiry date periodically.
