Description

Phonic Trap 152mm x 3m is acoustic insulated ducting designed to attenuate fan and extraction system noise in grow room ventilation installations using a 152mm (6-inch) duct size. We have been recommending Phonic Trap acoustic ducting to UK growers since 2017 as the most effective and easy-to-install passive noise reduction solution for inline fan systems — fitting Phonic Trap to a fan installation makes an immediately audible difference to the noise level of the extraction system, both in the grow room and in adjacent spaces.

Why Phonic Trap Acoustic Ducting Reduces Fan Noise Effectively

Standard flexible or rigid ducting is acoustically transparent — it transmits sound waves from the fan motor and turbulent airflow efficiently along its length, radiating noise from every surface it contacts. Phonic Trap’s multi-layer construction changes this fundamentally. The inner layer — perforated or open-weave material — allows sound waves to enter the insulation layer from the air channel. The absorption layer — typically dense mineral wool or polyester fibres — converts sound energy into heat through frictional losses as sound waves pass through the fibrous structure. The outer jacket contains the absorbed energy within the duct cross-section rather than allowing it to radiate outward from the duct surface. The combination of absorption and containment achieves significant noise reduction across the frequency range generated by inline fans — typically 15–25dB — without restricting airflow or reducing fan efficiency. The 152mm diameter fits all standard 6-inch inline fan connections, and at 3 metres provides sufficient acoustic path length for meaningful attenuation.

How to Install Phonic Trap 152mm x 3m

Connect Phonic Trap directly to the fan outlet using a 152mm clamp for an airtight seal. Route smoothly from the fan toward the exhaust point with gradual bends rather than sharp kinks. Secure at intervals using duct hangers. Connect standard metal ducting or a louvre at the exit end. For maximum noise reduction, also apply Phonic Trap between the carbon filter and the fan inlet. Seal all connection points with duct tape for airtight joins that also improve odour containment.

Pair the Phonic Trap 152mm with a RAM or Revolution silenced 6-inch inline fan, Can-Lite carbon filter, and rubber duct couplings for a complete, low-noise 6-inch extraction system. Browse our full range of acoustic ducting and ventilation accessories.
