PLAGRON VITA START 1 LITRE is Plagron’s dedicated seedling and young plant nutrient, formulated with the gentle, balanced mineral ratios that newly germinated seedlings and freshly rooted cuttings need during their most vulnerable growth stage. We have been recommending Plagron Vita Start to UK growers since 2017 because the difference between a seedling nutrient and a full-strength vegetative formula is not a trivial one — young plants have underdeveloped root systems, low cell turgor, and limited buffering capacity, and feeding them with standard-strength nutrients at this stage causes tip burn, salt stress, and setback that costs days or weeks of productive growing time.

What Vita Start Provides That Standard Nutrients Cannot

Vita Start is formulated with a significantly reduced EC profile — approximately 0.5–0.8 ms/cm at standard dose rates — combined with a nutrient ratio optimised for the rapid cell division and root elongation phase of early growth rather than the nitrogen-dominated vigorous vegetative phase. It includes vitamin B1 (thiamine), which is a proven root growth stimulant and stress-recovery compound at early growth stages, alongside a gentle phosphorus boost that supports root tip development without the high nitrogen levels that can burn young leaf margins in seedlings with immature root uptake capacity. The result is seedlings that establish faster, show less transplant shock, and transition into the vegetative phase stronger than those fed with diluted full-strength nutrients.

How to Use Plagron Vita Start

Begin using Vita Start from the first watering after germination or rooting, and continue for two to three weeks until the plant has at least two to three sets of true leaves and is clearly establishing vigorous growth. Dilute at 5ml per litre and use as the sole nutrient source during this early phase — do not combine with full-strength base nutrients. Transition to Plagron Alga Grow or Terra Grow gradually by blending increasing proportions of the vegetative nutrient into the Vita Start solution over three to four waterings to avoid an abrupt nutritional change that could trigger stress.
