Activated Carbon Filtration Technology

The principle behind carbon air filtration is adsorption — the physical process by which volatile organic compound (VOC) molecules bond to the enormous surface area of activated carbon particles as air passes through the filter bed. Activated carbon is produced from carbon-rich source materials — wood, coal, or coconut shells — that are processed to create an internal pore structure with a surface area measured in hundreds to thousands of square metres per gram. This vast internal surface area provides the adsorption capacity for VOC molecules that makes activated carbon so effective at odour elimination.
