Description
Sealing Gland is a rubber or neoprene fitting used to create an airtight, weatherproof seal around cables, pipes, or ducting where they pass through the walls, lids, or panels of grow tents, reservoirs, equipment enclosures, and electrical installations. We have been supplying sealing glands and grow room accessory fittings to UK growers since 2017 as the small but essential components that make the difference between a professionally built system and one that leaks air, light, or moisture at every penetration point.
Why Sealing Glands Are Essential in Grow Room Installations
Every hole or penetration in a grow tent fabric, reservoir lid, or equipment enclosure is a potential source of light leaks, air leaks, and moisture ingress. In a photoperiod grow room, even a small light leak during the dark period can trigger stress responses in light-sensitive plants — hermaphroditism and re-vegging are both real risks from light contamination during the lights-off period. Air leaks in the tent fabric undermine negative pressure and allow odour-laden air to escape rather than being drawn through the carbon filter. Moisture ingress into electrical equipment enclosures is a serious safety risk. Sealing glands compress around cables, pipes, or tubing as they are tightened, creating a positive seal at the point of penetration that prevents all of these problems simultaneously. The flexible rubber or neoprene material accommodates a range of cable and pipe diameters and provides a durable, long-lasting seal that resists the warm, humid conditions typical of active grow rooms.
How to Fit a Sealing Gland Correctly
Select the correct size sealing gland for the diameter of the cable or pipe being sealed. Feed the cable or pipe through the gland body, then tighten the gland nut to compress the inner seal ring against the cable or pipe surface. Tighten sufficiently to create a firm seal without deforming the cable or pipe. For tent fabric penetrations, use sealing glands in combination with the tent’s existing port reinforcements. Check that the seal is effective by running the system and verifying no air or light escapes at the penetration point. Loosen and re-adjust if the cable needs to be repositioned.
