Silenced Air 315mm x 600mm Silencer is a passive acoustic silencer designed to be installed inline in a 315mm extraction duct run to significantly reduce the noise level of high-volume extraction systems before air exits the building. How the Silenced Air Passive Silencer Reduces Extraction Noise

The Silenced Air silencer works on the principle of acoustic absorption and expansion chamber attenuation. As high-velocity air from the extraction fan enters the silencer’s larger internal chamber, the sudden expansion reduces air velocity and the turbulence-related noise it generates. The internal surfaces of the silencer are lined with acoustic absorption material — typically mineral wool or acoustic foam — that absorbs the sound energy carried by the moving air across a broad frequency range. The combination of velocity reduction and acoustic absorption significantly reduces the noise level at the silencer exit compared to the inlet, typically achieving 15–25dB attenuation depending on frequency. At 315mm and 600mm length, this silencer provides meaningful acoustic path length for absorption while maintaining the duct diameter needed to pass large air volumes without excessive pressure drop. The result is an exhaust point that is substantially quieter than an unsilenced duct run at the same extraction rate.

How to Install the Silenced Air 315mm x 600mm Silencer

Install the silencer as close to the exhaust exit point as possible — this is where attenuation is most effective for reducing external noise. Connect the inlet to your duct run using 315mm METU clamps for airtight, secure connections. Route the outlet to your exhaust louvre or exit fitting. Support the silencer independently as its weight at 315mm diameter is substantial. Ensure the airflow direction arrows on the silencer body are aligned correctly with the direction of your extraction airflow. Combine with Phonic Trap acoustic ducting on the fan outlet for maximum total system noise reduction.
