The right propagation nutrients and cloning products are the difference between a 50% rooting success rate and a consistent 90%+. Rooting gels, cloning powders, seedling nutrients and hormone formulations provide the auxins, vitamins and mineral elements that trigger and accelerate root initiation in cuttings — and the gentle, balanced nutrition that seedlings need in the first critical days after germination.
Rooting Gels and Cloning Solutions
Clonex gel is the most widely trusted rooting gel on the market — a viscous, hormone-containing gel that you apply directly to the freshly cut stem of your clone before inserting into the propagation medium. Its gel consistency keeps it in contact with the cut surface throughout the rooting period, delivering a consistent supply of IBA (Indole-3-Butyric Acid) — a plant auxin that directly stimulates root cell differentiation at the cut site. Applied correctly, Clonex reliably accelerates rooting by 30–50% compared to untreat cuttings.
Rooting powders provide the same active hormones in dry form — useful when the cutting surface would dilute a gel excessively, or when working with large numbers of cuttings quickly. Dip the cut end in water, then into the powder, shaking off the excess before inserting into the propagation medium.
Seedling and Clone Nutrients
Seedlings and freshly rooted cuttings cannot handle the EC levels that established plants tolerate. Start seedlings at 0.4–0.6 EC using a specific seedling nutrient containing all macro and micro-elements in low concentration. Products like Growth Technology Formulex, Canna Start or Plagron Seedling are formulated specifically for this delicate stage. Gradually increase EC as the plant establishes its first true leaves and root system, reaching 0.8–1.0 EC by the time you transplant.
