Description
SHOGUN Samurai Hydro Grow for Soft Water is a precision two-part hydroponic base nutrient formulated specifically for use with soft or RO-purified water that we have been recommending to UK growers since 2017. SHOGUN developed the Soft Water variant of Samurai Hydro to address one of the most common nutritional challenges faced by UK growers — the absence of background calcium and magnesium in soft tap water and RO-treated water, which leaves standard hydroponic nutrients unable to meet the plant’s full requirements without separate supplementation. Samurai Hydro Grow Soft Water builds the complete mineral profile from scratch, delivering everything the plant needs in the right ratios for soft-water growing conditions.
The Soft Water Problem in Hydroponic Growing
UK tap water hardness varies enormously by region — from near-zero in Scottish highland areas to above 0.5 mS/cm EC in parts of southern England. Hard water provides a useful background supply of calcium and magnesium that supplements what standard nutrients deliver. Soft water growers — and all RO water users — lose this background supply entirely. A standard hydroponic nutrient designed for moderately hard water will systematically under-supply calcium and magnesium when used with soft or RO water, leading to the tip burn, blossom end rot and interveinal chlorosis that are endemic in soft-water growing areas. SHOGUN Samurai Hydro Grow Soft Water is formulated with elevated calcium and magnesium fractions that compensate precisely for this absence, delivering a complete, balanced mineral supply regardless of source water quality.
Mixing Protocol and Nutrient Programme
Mix Part A and Part B at equal volumes in soft or RO water — typically 2–4 ml per litre of each — always diluting each part separately before combining. Never mix A and B concentrates directly. Target EC of 1.0–1.8 mS/cm depending on plant size and growth stage, pH 5.8–6.2. Compatible with the full SHOGUN additive range: SHOGUN CalMag (for additional calcium/magnesium support), SHOGUN Katana Roots and SHOGUN Zenzyme. Transition to SHOGUN Samurai Hydro Bloom at the start of flowering.
